With website hosting, you can think of this as “where your website lives.” A website host is a server that stores all of the files, databases, and code related to your website.

While not the only component, website servers are a critical piece in the load speed and security of a website.

Glacial’s new server infrastructure utilizes leading edge technology to provide lightning fast website load times and hardened security layers.

DNS records are essentially a ledger that tell the internet where to send anything for your domain name. They tell the internet where your website is hosted, where your email is managed, and where any sub domains live.

Clients that have their DNS records managed by Glacial can utilize our support staff to make DNS updates on their behalf, or on request from authorized third-party vendors that the client also works with.

This saves time, allows Glacial to instantly troubleshoot if needed, and gives clients peace of mind knowing who is handling this for them.

Have you ever noticed the https:// in front of a website URL? The S (and usually the corresponding padlock) signify the website has an SSL on it.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, and is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client. This helps protect information transferred between a website and user. Sites with SSL’s also present as being more trust worthy and many modern internet browsers will block the loading of a site that is not https://.

Additionally, Google has confirmed that having an SSL on your website is indeed a current ranking factor. When is the last time you saw an http:// website ranking number 1?

WordPress has been around for 20 years, and part of what makes it such a great platform is the massive plugin ecosystem around it. These plugins provide additional functionality that would normally have to be custom coded by a developer each time you wanted to edit your website.

While some plugins in the WordPress ecosystem are free, many are paid tools that require yearly subscriptions.

By working with Glacial, you avoid having to pay for these individual paid plugin subscriptions, while also getting the added benefits of Glacial’s web development and web maintenance teams being able to complete edits faster, thus saving you even more money.

Access to premium stock photography to be used on your website as part of website edits, landing pages, and new website builds.

Glacial has two form systems available to clients. Basic and MDcompliant (HIPAA compliant) forms.

With the Basic Forms, clients have the ability to use these forms on their website. However, there is not an individual login for the practice to access or edit the forms. Those requests must go through Glacial.

MDcompliant forms are an additional charge per form. With each MDcompliant form, clients get 2 user logins to the form system in order to access submissions. We suggest practices use general emails such as info@ or a dedicated email for the form system login rather than individuals at the practice.

Glacial has a video hosting platform that clients can use in place of Youtube.

Hackers and malicious actors are constantly evolving, and people still are always trying to break in and cause problems.

While standard implementations of WordPress and server technologies such as APACHE and NGINX are open source and fairly secure out of the box, there are still many “best practices” that need to be implemented in order to fully secure your website against malicious attacks.

Glacial dedicates time and resources to implementing these best practices, and updating as new methods and tools become available.

Sometimes a website goes down. It could be you forgetting to renew your domain name (we can manage that if you’d like), it could be some sort of malicious attack, or it could be a code conflict between plugins.

Glacial employs a website uptime and alert notification system for Total Website clients that alerts our support staff when a website is down. This speeds up response times and ensures your website is not down for long, whatever the cause may be.

Glacial takes daily backups of your website, and retains 90 days worth of website backups on a rolling basis.

This ensures should something catastrophic happen to your website, or something be accidentally deleted or needing to be reversed, there are backups available to solve the issue.

We also take backups of specific files anytime edits are made.

Depending on the scope of the project, some edits are better suited for being done on a staging site first before rolling out to the live version of your website.

At the web maintenance staff digression and at the request of a client, we can create and maintain a staging version of your website to be used for previewing edits before completion.

WordPress websites and WordPress plugins regularly release software updates. These updates bring things such as new features, enhanced functionality, better performance, and vulnerability patches.

However, not all updates are seemless, and there is potential for code conflicts between WordPress core and a plugin.

With managed updates from Glacial, we handle these updates for you and will fix any errors caused by an update or plugin conflict as part of the service.

Updates are made regularly, but Glacial reserves the right to delay updates as needed to avoid known conflicts or issues.

Website viruses and malware is like real life viruses. Ever evolving and with new ones all the time, and despite best efforts, sometimes a new strain comes along or a vulnerability becomes known and is able to break through your defenses.

In these incredibly rare cases, Glacial will find the source and provide website malware remediation cleanup services to repair your website as part of the Total Website package.

Glacial is completing an access portal that clients and their third party vendors will be able to utilize for various website related tasks (DNS updates, clearing site cache, PHP versions, database access, etc).

Clients on the Total Website package will be given logins to the portal upon launch.
