LASIK Surgery: an Internet Marketing Consultant’s Experience

My vision has always been less than ideal. I have astigmatism and started wearing glasses in middle school, at first just to see the board. Slowly but surely, my sight became progressively worse until I finally had to succumb to wearing glasses for everything I did: driving, watching movies, walking the dog, etc. Let me tell you, nothing is more frustrating than having to wear glasses to one of your closest friends’ weddings. Those pictures are forever.

After the daily wear and tear, my glasses would loosen and fall off my face if I looked down, or rip my hair out when little strands got stuck in the arms. I tried contact lenses too, but they were uncomfortable and I simply could not get into the habit of wearing them. So, glasses were my only option.

At Glacial Multimedia, we need to know just about everything there is to know about ophthalmology services, specifically LASIK. After a year of LASIK content being part of my everyday life, I finally had the opportunity to experience for myself what I have read about in countless glowing online reviews.

LASIK is an elective, refractive surgery used to correct vision issues. Ophthalmologists use an extremely precise, high-powered laser to strategically remove corneal tissue in order to reshape the cornea and change its focusing power for clearer vision. Because astigmatism is a distortion caused by irregular cornea, this procedure is exactly what I needed to rid myself of glasses for good (or at least for the next 20 years).

My procedure was done at Clear Advantage Vision Correction Center by Dr. Timothy Peters, who has performed thousands of LASIK procedures. It truly was an amazing experience from start to finish. Every detail, from risk to reward, is thoroughly explained, making understanding the process crystal clear – even for someone who is immersed in LASIK information all the time, there is still so much to learn. After a consultation appointment to ensure I was a viable candidate, my surgery date was scheduled.

I won’t sugar-coat it: going into a surgery like this can be stressful. I mean, it’s your eyes – the windows to your world. What if something bad happens? What if I blink during the laser and it ruins everything? Dr. Peters assured me that the process is quick, painless, and most importantly, that I would not be able to blink.

Once I was positioned underneath the laser, my eyes were operated on individually. One eye was covered while the other was propped open with a stent, and I was promptly given enough numbing eye drops so that I couldn’t feel a thing. There was a series of bright lights, some pressure while the measurement was being taken, then a bit of noise and more lights during the laser. That’s it! There was zero pain. Dr. Peters gently took the stent off, covered my eye, and moved on to the other one. The entire process start to finish took less than 10 minutes. I arrived at the office at 4:45pm, had a preliminary information review, and was out the door by 5:30pm. I closed my eyes the entire way home, immediately got in bed, and woke up with clear vision. I’m not even exaggerating, it was that quick!

I’m writing this article one day post-LASIK, sitting at my desk with no glasses needed to read my computer screen. In fact, I tried on my glasses just for kicks, and they made my vision completely blurry. At my follow up appointment this morning, they told me my vision is now 20/15, which is even better than 20/20. I can confidently say that I’d get LASIK again without a second thought, and would highly recommend it to anyone that may be interested. Thank you so much to Clear Advantage for changing my life!
